State of Nevada Public Works Projects
Since 2014, Resource Concepts, Inc. (RCI) provides civil site design, geotechnical investigations, surveying and construction staking, contract documents, materials testing and inspection, and construction management support services for several State Public Works facilities throughout northern Nevada.
Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery
Site Improvements – ADA Compliance
RCI was retained to evaluate and redesign the concrete plaza and pavilion, and paved parking area to ensure the site complied with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and was accessible for visitors to this memorial. Having veterans on staff, RCI was very proud to be involved with this project.
Survey Services
The approximately 65-acre boundary survey involved researching available State, City of Fernley and Cemetery Commission records, as well as verifying all existing easements and adjacent rights-of-way. The site survey included base mapping for the design that included concrete curbs and walkways, asphalt paving and drainage. Each survey involved a combination of GPS and Total Station technology, supported by state of the art electronic mapping software.
Design & Construction Inspection
RCI work included the evaluation, design and construction inspection of an 11,000 square-foot parking lot, 25,000 square-foot roadway along Veterans Way, 10,300 square-foot concrete plaza and pavilion, and associated pedestrian and vehicular access. All work complied with ADA accessibility standards, incorporated electrical utility improvements and were constructed to avoid impacts to ongoing memorial services.
Budget & Scheduling
All RCI work was completed on time and under budget. Based on State funding sources, the project was divided into two parts, ADA compliance and asphalt improvements. RCI worked closely with State Public Works project management staff to ensure interim project billings were tracked and submitted in accordance with State invoicing requirements through Design Development, Construction Documents and Record Drawing submittals.
Northern Nevada Correctional Center
Phase I Parking Lot Renovation
RCI was retained to evaluate this first phase of parking lot improvements, provide a civil site design to include construction plans and contract documents, and perform construction inspection. Design work involved pulverizing, grading and paving 15,000 square feet of parking lot, crack fill and sealing of 25,000 square feet of usable parking area, drainage improvements consisting of 220 feet of new PCC valley gutter and associated grading, along with signage and striping. Construction management included contract documents, bidding and contractor selection, pre-construction meeting, coordinating RCI construction staking and site inspections, and ongoing coordination with contractor and State Public Works staff.
Phase II Improvements
In accordance with a Department of Justice mandate, the correctional center was tasked with bringing the recreation yard into ADA compliance. As such, RCI was retaining to evaluate and prepare design plans and contract documents for the remaining parking lot improvements and recreational area. The design work for the recreational area involved a new paved track, paved tennis court and horse shoe area, and associated grading, drainage and site access. Additional work included AC pavement repair and ADA access leading to one of the inmate housing units, site surveying, construction staking and construction inspection.
Nevada Department of Wildlife Facility
Design Services
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) facility in Reno is an active branch of State government that was experiencing asphalt distress and utility code issues associated with the age of the facility. RCI was retained to evaluate the site and provide a civil site design that included improvement plans to address AC paving, concrete curbing, drainage, ADA accessibility, increase parking needs, and improved site access from Valley Road.
Site Improvement Plans
RCI work involved site surveying, geotechnical investigation and site design of this approximately 90,000 square-foot site that included 71,000 square feet of AC paving, ADA ramp improvements, on-site gas service routing, concrete valley gutters and curbing. Design and construction considerations included shallow existing utilities, an active boat inspection area and parking lot that required the site remain operational during construction operations.
