Long-Term Relationship with Lincoln County
RCI has been providing on-call services to Lincoln County since 1978. Since 2007 RCI has provide on-call services directly through the County’s Nuclear Oversight Office. RCI has provided technical review, comments and inputs on a suite of projects dealing with Natural Resource and Rangeland Management, as well as Public Land Policy.
Services Included
Providing technical review and comment, and providing additional alternatives for consideration for the Caliente Rail Corridor, designed to transport nuclear waste across Lincoln County to Yucca Mountain as part of the BLM’s Environmental Impact Statement and associated regulatory processes.
Pros & Cons
Advocating for a Solar Energy Zone (SEZ) to encourage solar development on public lands where desired by the County, resulting in designation of a county-recommended SEZ and working to support subsequent planning processes.
Advocating against a proposed wind power development that was opposed by the County, resulting in a withdrawal of the proposed plan of development.
Advocating for biomass and geothermal energy development, as well as the proper use and proactive management of pinyon-juniper woodlands in a manner that leads to improved ecological systems and economic development in Lincoln County.
Public Lands Assistance
Providing technical review and comment on state-lead and federal planning efforts for Greater Sage-grouse Management.
Working in coordination with the County and N-4 State Grazing Board to support sound range management practices and policies in order to maintain public lands grazing within the County.
